The Adidas Superstar continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary with this latest pair that pays homage to the late Jam Master Jay from legendary Queens-based hip hop group Run DMC.
This Run DMC x adidas Superstar starts off with a smooth black leather construction on the upper with contrasting white placed on the three stripes branding on the side panels as well as the heel tab. Signature details include Run DMC logos on the insoles, Superstar branding on the side panels, and Jam Master Jay branded tongues. The upper sits comfortably on top of a black rubber midsole and matching outsole with the look completed by black flat laces.
This black cotton tee commemorates when Hip-hop group Run DMC made a song called 'My Adidas', where, at a concert in Madison Square Garden in 1986, they encouraged the audience to hold up their Adidas – enter the world of street culture.
“My Adidas” originated as a retaliation to an anti-sneaker novelty song called “Felon Shoes”, recorded to discourage kids from aping the stylings of prison inmates. The Run-DMC track and the Raising Hell LP had an accompanying tour that took them and their three-stripe shoe message worldwide.
